Mr. Banks: Teacher and Rapper

Mr. Herman Banks is an English teacher at Tech, but he is also a well-known rapper: Harvard Blue.

Mr. Banks is an English teacher at Worcester Tech and is also a well-known rapper that goes by the name Harvard Blue. So far, he has released three  projects: “Live It Different,” “Born Winner,” and “This is Blue.” Banks also features on a new project by rapper Louie Gonz named “Final Strike,” including tracks “So What!” “Bad Habits,” and “Out the Way”.

When we asked Mr. Banks what inspired him to start rapping, he said, “I started writing my own music in 5th grade.” He just wanted to impress kids in his neighborhood. Mr.  Banks said, “I love rapping and I take it very seriously.” Mr. Banks believes that “As a musician gets older, their music should mature with them.”

Mr. Banks said that with his music,  he wants his audience to know that “everyone has a winning mentality.” When asked what he thinks the best song he’s made is, he said, “Picking a favorite song is like picking a favorite child. I have to let my fans decide what my best material is, and that would be my song ‘Hello’.” As of this month,  the song sits at over 13.5 thousand views on YouTube.

Mr. Banks says he is most inspired by KRS-One, Gang Starr, Rakim, LL Cool J, and Biz Markie.  These rappers are his favorite and we can agree with that list. Mr. Banks says that William Hurtz is one of his favorite people to work with because he loves rapping and producing music with him.

Mr. Banks’  favorite musical genre is Hip-Hop but he says he can listen to anything from any genre. “There are not as many people who listen to albums but there is a small group of dedicated music fans who do,” says Mr. Banks. One of the reasons that people don’t listen to albums all the way through anymore is because everyone has access to any song they want a fingertip-length away.

Mr. Banks is a good person who has helped people through his albums and has given people another point of view about life. Listen to his music, and listen to it carefully because he’s sending positive and motivational vibes. His music is touching and relatable, and we highly recommend it.
